Dunluce Castle

Dunluce Castle

Dunluce Castle was built around the year 1500. It has a history to match its dramatic cliff top setting. This atmospheric castle ruin provides many different photographic opportunities, whatever the season. It was the inspiration behind the great castle of Cair Paravel in C S Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - a book I loved as a child and still love as an adult - and I can understand why. I have photographed it on numerous occasions but this is probably my favourite, from the viewpoint of half-way up the grassy (and very slippy) bank, with the summer sun setting over the sea.
