The Lake District

The first time we visited the Lake District, in August 2011, we fell in love with it instantly and wondered why we had never been before. We had often seen the signs for it as we sped by on the M6 on our way to the South of France with our caravan and four children in tow. From the motorway I caught glimpses of the distant mountains, promising that one day we would stop. But we never did, until, with the children now grown-up we took the ferry for a short break in Keswick.

What a spectacularly beautiful place! And only half a day’s journey from home. We’ve been back at least half a dozen times since. Photography doesn’t always combine well with vacations and sunrise is very early in summer! But I have managed to garner a few photos that capture something of the beauty of the place, even as an outsider. If you’ve ever visited the Lake District, I hope you will enjoy this selection. And if you haven’t, perhaps the photographs will provide an additional incentive to visit.
